The Council on Heritage and the Anthropology of Tourism (CHAT) is a section of the American Anthropological Association (AAA), and serves as the premiere organization for the AAA’s diverse membership who are engaged in researching, teaching, practice, and advocacy related to heritage, tourism and their varied intersections. Our members come from all four fields of anthropology, and include both academic scholars and practitioners working in heritage, tourism, and related sectors. They are uniquely poised to advise both the AAA leadership as well as outside communities looking for experts to consult on matters pertaining to heritage and/or tourism concerns, particularly on sustainability, development, and identity issues.

Please join us! Interested scholars may join the AAA and CHAT at the same time.

This website provides news about CHAT activities and members, ocassional original content, and information about special CHAT programs like our annual book prizes and our student paper prize
